Semi-trailer manufacturers had taken the EU to court to overturn its VECTO rules, which require new semi-trailers to improve their energy efficiency and cut CO₂ emissions by around 10%. The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) has now dismissed the appeal, so the rules stand.
Meeting that target will be demanding, and aerodynamics will play a central role. Side skirts are one of the main solutions, reducing drag to lower fuel use and CO₂ across a trailer’s life.
CFD simulation: the blue surface shows the airflow that creates drag around the trailer, which shrinks once Dymaxa Skirts are fitted (right).
Dymaxa Side Skirts already deliver a large share of the target. In a VECTO calculation carried out by the independent testing house AVL, the skirts reached about 4% toward the required 10%, close to half, and they are proven in daily use by some of Europe’s largest fleets, including H.Essers, AB InBev and PNO.
Dymaxa’s latest design is fastenless for a clean, durable fit, and is available as an OEM-ready Side Skirt that integrates directly into a trailer manufacturer’s assembly line, giving the industry a proven route to meet VECTO.
